Fill your freezer with premium, Indiana-raised beef from The Smoker Farm in Wanatah. Our beef shares—available as a whole, quarter or half share—give you the full tongue-to-tail experience: ribeyes, fillets, steaks, roasts, ground beef, and more, dry aged for 21 days then cut exactly the way you like it.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Reserve Your Share – Pay your deposit now to secure your portion of a live beef animal, raised with no added hormones or antibiotic regimens.
  2. Buy the Steer – On the day of harvest, you'll be invoiced for your share (quarter, half, or whole) of a steer at a price of $2.75/lb live weight. The typical beef steer weighs 1,450 lbs.  Congratulations, you're now a farmer... on paper, of course, and only for a few minutes before the harvest.
  3. Customize Your Cuts – Once the animal is harvested, you’ll speak directly with our trusted butcher to choose how you want your beef cut and packaged.
  4. Pay the Balance – After cutting, you’ll receive an invoice from Defiance Beef for your share of the live beef plus the processing and packaging, which varies based on your instructions. Processing is $0.75 per live pound with additional charges for upgraded processings like making patties.

Our beef is grain-finished for rich flavor and exceptional quality. Whether you’re feeding a growing family or stocking up for the year, this is a cost-effective way to enjoy local, clean, nutrient-rich beef.

All totaled with processing, expect your final costs to be approximately $5000 for a whole beef and you'll receive over 500 lbs of meat. That's $2,500 for a half share, yielding over 225 lbs of meat. Or, only $1,250 for a quarter, yielding over 110 lbs of meat.

Your freezer will thank you.

Check out the cut sheets for a Quarter Beef Share and a Half Beef Share. This is what the butcher will walk you through before they cut the 21 day dry aged beef.
