How pricing works: Your $200 deposit today reserves your spot. On harvest day you're invoiced for your share of the live steer at $2.75/lb live weight. Processing and packaging is $0.75/lb live weight. The final balance is due at delivery. A typical steer weighs 1,450 lbs — the numbers above reflect all-in estimates based on that average.

How It Works
  1. Reserve Your Share — $200 Deposit Today Pay your deposit to lock in your spot. We process beef on a rolling schedule throughout the year and slots fill fast — especially in spring and fall. Your deposit guarantees your place in the queue.
  2. We Confirm Your Processing Date We'll reach out to confirm your harvest timeline and connect you directly with our butchers at Montgomery Meats in Ladoga, Indiana. You'll know exactly when your beef is being processed.
  3. Customize Your Cuts You speak directly with our master butchers to choose how you want everything cut — steak thickness, roast sizes, burger patties vs. bulk ground beef, and any specialty requests. This is your beef, cut your way.
  4. 21-Day Dry Aging After harvest, your beef dry ages for 21 days. Natural enzymes break down the muscle fibers, producing beef that's dramatically more tender and flavorful than anything from a grocery store or commercial supply chain. This is the same process used by the world's best steakhouses.
  5. Vacuum Sealed and Shipped or Picked Up Every cut is individually vacuum sealed, labeled, and either shipped directly to your door anywhere in the lower 48 states via UPS, or available for pickup at Montgomery Meats in Ladoga, IN. Shipped in insulated packaging with gel packs or dry ice.
  6. Balance Due at Delivery The remaining balance — based on the actual live weight of your animal — is invoiced at time of delivery. No surprises, no hidden fees.

Common Questions
A quarter share (~110 lbs) fits in a standard 7 cubic foot chest freezer. A half share (~225 lbs) needs around 8–10 cubic feet — a medium chest freezer. A whole beef (~500 lbs) requires about 16 cubic feet. A basic chest freezer runs $200–300 and pays for itself on the first order. Not sure? Call us and we'll help you figure out the right size.
We process on a rolling schedule throughout the year. Current slots are filling fast for spring — reserve by June 1st to guarantee your spot. If you need a specific date or timeline, call us and we'll work with you. We've always found a way to accommodate customers who reach out directly.
Absolutely — and you'll save on shipping. Beef share pickups are available at Montgomery Meats in Ladoga, IN. The Mini Share and subscription boxes can be picked up directly from our farm in Wanatah, IN. Just let us know at time of order.
Properly vacuum sealed, your beef will keep for 12–24 months with no loss of quality. Steaks and ground beef are best within 12 months. Roasts and larger cuts can go 18–24 months. Vacuum sealing is dramatically superior to grocery store packaging for preventing freezer burn.
Splitting is a great way to get the best value per pound on a larger share. Two families splitting a half beef each get ~110 lbs for around $1,250 — the same as a quarter but at half beef pricing. Just order together and coordinate pickup or have it shipped to one address and divide it yourselves. Give us a call if you want to talk through the logistics.
First-time beef share buyers are our favorite customers. We'll walk you through every step — from choosing your share size to talking through your cut sheet with the butchers. The most common feedback we get from first-timers is that it was much easier than they expected, and that they wish they'd done it sooner. Check out our full FAQ page for more detail, or just call us.
Our Promise to You

We stand behind every box we ship. If something isn't right — the quality, the cut, the experience — reach out and we'll make it right. That's not a legal disclaimer. That's how a five-generation family farm operates. We're not going anywhere, and we want you back next year.
